Report on activities in the Group -1 project for the two weeks ending 2024-07-11.

[edit]The Group -1 project kicked off with the start of the Wikimedia Foundation's 2024/2025 fiscal year on 2024-07-01. We skipped reporting during the first week of the project as it was a 3 day week for most staff working the project. This report starts out a planed weekly reporting cycle which we hope to stick with for the duration of the project.
Reporting will typically include a copy of basic status and progress information being reported internally for Wikimedia Foundation use. This on-wiki reporting may also include additional details of meetings and decisions that are only summarized in the mandatory reporting.

- Started building Wikimedia Release Engineering Team/Group -1 to track project and progress on wiki.
- Established weekly sync meeting for project participants
- Discussed implementation options for image building (CI driven, scap driven, etc)
- Ahmon is testing existing build process with alternate staging directory
- Ahmon proposed Gerrit change 1053752 to introduce a MW_FORCE_VERSION envvar to override wikiversions.json lookup data
