Weird disappearing of VE on enwiki

The VE has disappeared from enwiki. Can someone fix that?

Philippe (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Unfortunately, the English Wikipedia's community held a request for comment that resulted in a request that the Wikimedia Foundation disable VE on that wiki. We have done so. However, if you create an account and "opt-in" through the user preferences, you can still access VisualEditor.

Is it possible to check for editors who have used VE, but don't have the preference set, so as to leave them a short message with a link to the appropriate prefs page in case they want to turn it back on?

/me waves at Sj - Hi, it should be possible, from what I know. We are considering similar solutions.

Thank you, but this link is broken.

?

The link that Helder posted is broken.

Whatamidoing (WMF) (talkcontribs)

It works for me, but perhaps you will have better success with this link.

Nnemo (talkcontribs)

Now the link works, the message has been edited. Thank you Helder.

This highlights a serious flaw in Wikipedia's discussion system. When one writes a suggestion or a bug report, its address (very) soon becomes broken. This is especially bad given that this discussion place is the recommended way for the users to request and discuss changes for Wikipedia.

Whatamidoing (WMF) (talkcontribs)

A new discussion system is being designed. It will not have this problem. See Flow for more information.

Meh... it will have cryptic permanent URLs, consequently I believe people will just create a generic link to the talk page (as they do with LQT) instead of trying to find out how to link to a specific section...
