Dear Yair rand, Welcome to MediaWiki.org!

Yes, Welcome! This site is dedicated to the documentation of the MediaWiki software, the software behind many wikis, including that of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation projects.
Please, take a look at the following pages. They might prove useful to you as a newcomer here:

If you have any questions, please ask me on my talk page. Once again, welcome, and I hope you quickly feel comfortable here, and find this site a beneficial documentation of the MediaWiki software.

Thanks, and regards, Diego Grez ¡hablemos! 23:06, 7 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re: Mobilejs.js and Submitting Code

[edit]

In regards to your comment at User:Yair rand/MobileJS.js ("I don't actually know how to submit code, so chances are this will just sit here unused. Meh."), All you need to do is create a patch file using SVN and then create a bug report in bugzilla and attach the patch file. Peachey88 02:07, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re: Reference Tooltips

[edit]

User:Jorm_(WMF) informed me that you had gotten Reference Tooltips along. I want to put you in touch with Andrew Garret at getting it unstuck. Contact me tchay at wikimedia :-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tchay (talkcontribs)

Sorry, I much prefer communicating on-wiki instead of using email. I hope that's okay. (Additional apologies for taking so long to respond.) --Yair rand (talk) 05:06, 17 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I made you an administrator

Thanks for helping clean up around here :) Legoktm (talk) 05:47, 5 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

O_O
Well that was a surprise. There isn't any kind of RFA process here, I take it? --Yair rand (talk) 05:51, 5 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Vertical writing support

[edit]

Hi, Yair rand. Have you had a chance to take a look at the issues that TheDJ noted that people discussed during the architecture summit in January? If so, maybe we could talk about this RFC in this week's meeting. Thanks! Sharihareswara (WMF) (talk) 05:42, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
