Hi, I think it will not be necessary to do the pledging. As soon as a coder takes over maintaining an extension he or she removes the existing template and releases a new version. I believe the process is already working well like this without problems and does not need to be changed. Cheers

That's a good point - maybe replace improve upon the message encouraging developers to take on the task rather than change the template to pledge because - like you said - they should just take it down at that point. :)
