Add topicDear Ottomata, Welcome to MediaWiki.org!
Yes, welcome! This site is dedicated to documenting the MediaWiki software, the software behind many wikis, including that of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation projects.
Please, take a look at the following pages. They might prove useful to you as a newcomer here:
If you have any questions, please ask me on my talk page. Once again, welcome, and I hope you quickly feel comfortable here, and find this site useful documentation of the MediaWiki software.

Contributing to this wiki
[edit]I assume you're the person behind contributions such as this. A quick primer on MediaWiki discussion pages follows.
- Always sign posts by appending the string ~~~~. This will add your username and a timestamp. There's a helpful button for this above the edit window.
- Replies are generally indented using ":"s at the beginning of a line. Each subsequent ":" is a level deeper. For example:
Hello there. How are you? --User1 05:10, 16 February 2012 (UTC) : Hi! I'm good, you? --User2 05:11, 16 February 2012 (UTC) :: Pretty good. Thanks for asking. --User1 05:12, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
produces...
Hello there. How are you? --User1 05:10, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! I'm good, you? --User2 05:11, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- Pretty good. Thanks for asking. --User1 05:12, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
That way it's much easier to identify replies. For multi-line replies, there are two syntax choices:
: Hi! I'm good, you? : This is a paragraph at the same indentation level, see? --User2 05:11, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
or...
: Hi! I'm good, you?<p>More text will follow in the next paragraph now. No need to close the p tag. --User2 05:11, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Hope that helps, --MZMcBride (talk) 05:17, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Share your experience and feedback as a Wikimedian in this global survey
[edit]Hello! The Wikimedia Foundation is asking for your feedback in a survey. We want to know how well we are supporting your work on and off wiki, and how we can change or improve things in the future.[1] The opinions you share will directly affect the current and future work of the Wikimedia Foundation. You have been randomly selected to take this survey as we would like to hear from your Wikimedia community. To say thank you for your time, we are giving away 20 Wikimedia T-shirts to randomly selected people who take the survey.[2] The survey is available in various languages and will take between 20 and 40 minutes.
You can find more information about this project. This survey is hosted by a third-party service and governed by this privacy statement. Please visit our frequently asked questions page to find more information about this survey. If you need additional help, or if you wish to opt-out of future communications about this survey, send an email to surveys@wikimedia.org.
Thank you! --EGalvez (WMF) (talk) 21:27, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

user page from meta
[edit]Hi. FYI, your meta user page would be displayed here if your actual user page were deleted (not just moved/blanked). If you would like that done let me (or any sysop) know. --Clump (talk) 21:11, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! I requested a deletion here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Synchbot#Ottomata_(migrate_to_global_user_page)
