Welcome to MediaWiki.org!

Yes, welcome! This site is dedicated to documenting the MediaWiki software, the software behind many wikis, including that of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation projects.
Please, take a look at the following pages. They might prove useful to you as a newcomer here:

If you have any questions, please ask me on my talk page. Once again, welcome, and I hope you quickly feel comfortable here, and find this site useful documentation of the MediaWiki software.

Priorities

[edit]

Hi! In phabricator:p/ovasileva/ it looks like everything became high priority, are you sure? :) For instance, phabricator:T87336 is certainly not high priority (low impact, high effort, local/specific issue with workaround); the actual thing to fix is phabricator:T91683, which also has an easy solution. --Nemo 15:01, 15 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

[edit]
  1. This survey is primarily meant to get feedback on the Wikimedia Foundation's current work, not long-term strategy.
  2. Legal stuff: No purchase necessary. Must be the age of majority to participate. Sponsored by the Wikimedia Foundation located at 149 New Montgomery, San Francisco, CA, USA, 94105. Ends January 31, 2017. Void where prohibited. Click here for contest rules.

Bad dates on Beta Features/Hovercards

[edit]

Hi. As pointed out by srdjan_m on IRC, this edit has a bad date. There's no February 31, 2017. CKoerner seems to have duplicated the error in this edit. --MZMcBride (talk) 05:13, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Midsummer

[edit]

Hey, because after I logged out of my email account, I realized I hadn't specifically told you, just added it to my calendar – I'll be out of office tomorrow (because of w:en:Midsummer) and won't keep track of Reading/Web/PDF Functionality. Back again on Monday. (: /Johan (WMF) (talk) 19:59, 22 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Prototype testing.

[edit]

Hello,

From a December newsletter on the Wikipedia in French, I've been informed your team looked for feedback on Reading/Web/Desktop Improvements/Prototype testing. I've finally got enough time to complete my comments (which are probably about the same than the post-its stuck on the poster at Wikimania 2019). But I realised that the announcement asking for feedback has been written some time ago.

Was it still okay to leave feedback on that page or was it too late? J. N. Squire (talk) 15:27, 6 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

@J. N. Squire: Sure - that's completely fine. We'll continue gathering feedback throughout January (as well as publishing some more announcements on other wikis). Thanks for the feedback! OVasileva (WMF) (talk) 18:47, 6 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ticket

[edit]

Hello, Olga!

I was wondering if the explanation I've given for the ticket (phab:T249676#6156299) was sufficient and the non-team-member perspective is understandable, or I need to do better? Thank you ;-) —Aron Man.🍂 edits🌾 02:49, 27 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Eliminated responses breakdown

[edit]

Hi, I think Reading/Web/Desktop Improvements/Repository/Sentiment Survey should have a breakdown on the categories of eliminated responses, and maybe a breakdown on these that contained foul language Aaron Liu (talk) 16:15, 20 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Can't get rid of Wikimedia reading tool

[edit]

Please see Talk:Reading/Web/Accessibility for reading#How do I close the "Wikimedia reading tool" window?. Jc3s5h (talk) 16:34, 10 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Jc3s5h - thanks for the question! At the bottom of the tool, you'll see the copy: "Press continue to send us your design and publish our feedback on the next page. Click here to remove this tool." Just click on the link "here" and the tool should turn off. Let us know if you still have issues! OVasileva (WMF) (talk) 08:32, 11 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Reading/Web/Desktop_Improvements

[edit]

Hi. First of all excuse me if this isn't the right channel to talk to the team. I am an admin at Spanish Wikisource and have a big concern about this skin, but couldn't find anywhere else to express it. I personally love Vector 2022 and would very much like to continue using it!

My issue is that interproject (e.g. English Wikipedia to English Wikisource) links are not visible anymore! This affects profoundly to the reach of sister projects.

With the old vector, interproject links had the same salience as interlanguage links. They both were in the same column. Now, interlanguage links have their own shiny button, but interproject links are buried in the "Tools" menu (collapsable out of view).

The "Tools" menu is for editors, 1% of people that interact with the page. Interproject links are primarily for users. There is some redundant linking, though: In some Wikipedias, interproject links are down in the "Authority Control" table (a visual mess) inside the "External links" tab (collapsable out of view).

Maybe interproject links should have their own shiny button. Regards, Ignacio Rodríguez (talk) 22:53, 10 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
