Page blanking

[edit]

Hello, blanking project pages is not very helpful, especially when you just redirect to a main page. There are usually two alternatives:

  • either you provide an alternative location for the same topic with a soft redirect ([1]),
  • or you just mark the page {{Historical }}.

In the specific case, it's not clear to me whether you intended to state that it's false that the analytics team worked on Analytics/Kraken starting in 2011. If it's not false, then we're losing information on the respective categories and someone looking for 2011 activities will experience increased difficulties. It would be better to set an end date and, if necessary, blank the other template parameters. --Nemo 13:50, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

In this case much of these docs refer to a project that never happened, they are design docs that have no value when it comes to our current software and make things more confusing when someone searches for our documentation online. For the most part describe projects and systems that never existed. They provide are missinformation, not information. If marking them as historical prevents them from being indexed by google it will be great but I do not think that is the case correct? NRuiz (WMF) (talk) 14:55, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
If that's the purpose, you can just add __NOINDEX__ in addition to historical. Then people will find them only by following links or from Special:Search, which is all we care about anyway. Nemo 08:00, 26 August 2016 (UTC)\Reply
Ahhhhhh! NOINDEX will do, using that going forward NRuiz (WMF) (talk) 15:06, 26 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
