Add topicCreating an own wiki[edit]
Hi. Per here, I meant "how do I actually get my own wiki using MediaWiki?" I'm 14, so nothing really makes any sense. =P Thanks! Silver Yoshi 02:44, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, so you want to run your own wiki. Only for you private use on your home local computer, or on a server usable for other users?
- At home, you would have to install XAMPP or a server like that, in the web you need webspace where you can run PHP scripts and install the wiki via FTP, so you need to find the right provider for you first. --Master on EN 16:34, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- I want a site that anyone can access from their computer, I was nearly able to set one up but I got a couple of errors, and I downloaded Wampserver which includes PHP, Apache and the other things. Silver Yoshi 07:16, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- If you want to get help you will have to post the errors, otherwise nobody will be able to help you! ;-) --Master on EN 18:32, 27 July 2009 (UTC) 18:30, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- This conversation was ages ago, but I've since created two of these on separate computers. Thanks for your help! Silver Yoshi 07:52, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- You are welcome! --Master on EN 13:01, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Master on EN. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Master on EN~mediawikiwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
