WMF as enabler
[edit]I liked what you wrote at Wikimedia Developer Summit/2018/Participants, thanks for expressing that problem so succintly. It goes well with Legoktm's concrete proposals after it. Some years ago there was also a short-lived attempt to nominate "volunteer product managers", by the way. Nemo 14:18, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback! I know there have been more than a few attempts to shift the default thinking about what the WMF's technical role should be. I'm hoping that at least some of the big blockers to moving in that direction are also in the past, because we should be able to do better. I am definitely looking forward to all those conversations. Just stopping by to say roughly the same as Nemo. I really liked reading your blurb. I completely agree that adequately solving the issue of someone/some organization momentarily being highly motivated and building something great, only to have the very open and important question of how we maintain the security and performance of that service/product/feature indefinitely, is quite tricky. Skimming the page, I've found many parts of it to be pretty inspiring. :-) --MZMcBride (talk) 05:11, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
