Yet another really, really bad idea
[edit]Hi Guy Macon my apologies for dragging you here. As I explained elsewhere I cannot communicate with en-wikipedians on enwiki because my account is indef-blocked there.
I am curious about the comment you posted, at Yet another really, really bad idea where, I think, you claim to see very wide white margins in posts made through FLOW? Did I understand your comment correctly? I am asking because I used to see very wide margins when I used Flow years ago, but not in the latest version. Since I am one of the (very?) few FLOW-proponents I am interested in your answer.
And since I am here now and will probably not see your answer for a few weeks, I may as well try to pick your brains on one more issue. I was going through the history of the versions of this page and saw one that said this in its edit summary: they could be reading this on a "mirror" site caused by the WMF putting this content on other pages with no option to turn off this behavior. Does this have anything to do with this: wikiquote:User talk:Whatamidoing (WMF)#Can I designate my wikiquote user-page as my home wiki or am I mis-understanding the issue? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 16:08, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
- The wide margins was a general comment saying that the stuff on the sides is a bad idea on small screens. I don't know whether flow has the stuff on the sides, but it it does the user should be able to turn it off. If you have any influence, try to get them to make full width text an option.
- The mirror site comment comes from some debugging I was doing. Most people have one or maybe a few projects where they have a custom user page, and the others use the metawiki page. So if I look at your userpage on, say, the Romanian language wikitravel, I will see your page on Meta.
- A while back I tried logging on and editing my user pages every wiki in every language. (I actually found some small wikis that wouldn't let any new users create an account! Those have been fixed.)
- In the process I discovered that a bunch of people copied an old version of a wiki to another site and then never updated it. So you might see a copy of the Swahili wiktionary with everything frozen in time 3 years ago. So I put a notice on the user talk pages I was creating pointing the reader to the original page instead of the possibly outdated mirror copy. --Guy Macon (talk) 17:05, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
- Me? influence? At last count I was officially persona non-grata on 3 major wmf-wikis, 4 if you count this one where it is not (yet?) officially so :-) Ottawahitech (talk) 16:40, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Why the recent small uptick in interest? Just curious. Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 18:31, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
