Add topicHi thank you for replying and helping me.
Im sorry I didn't understand... How exactly do I create 2 groups, 1 group can login and NOT edit any files. And another group who can login and EDIT files?
What commands exactly do I need to place in Localsettings.php to achieve that?
Thank you.

About GoogleLogin
[edit]Hi. There is a translation question for you on translatewiki:Thread:Support/About_MediaWiki:Googlelogin-form-merge-title/en about your GoogleLogin extension. Cheers /André Costa (WMSE) (talk) 10:14, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hello André! Thanks for your info :) I don't have an account on translatewiki.net with edit rights (just created a new now), so i can't answer there, are you able to copy my answer there? :) -> Linking is much better as merging, yes. From the technical site the user has still an fully standalone wiki account, too. So only the ID's of the Google account and wiki account are linked together. Hope that helps, and thanks for translations! :) -- Thanks Andre, if this is possible :) --194.25.30.14 13:01, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Continous Redirect
[edit]Hi Florian,
I have setup wiki.soexcellence.com with Google Login. However, when we try to create a new account, it is going on a continuous loop.
I first get the login page in Google. Once authenticated, it asks for the name of the user. And provides three options. Whatever option is chosen it comes back to the same page again.
Thank you in advance.
Antano
- Hi! I have tested it locally and it works. Is there no error message when you see the registration page again? I can not test, because the E-Maildomains are restricted :/ --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 18:09, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi! I can create you an E-Mail in the soexcellence.com domain or remove the E-Maildomains restriction. No, there are no error messages. And also strangely it works on my machine. It does not work on any other machine. As in it redirects in every other machines (tested in Mac, Ubuntu, Windows - Firefox and Chrome). Once registered in my machine the other users are able to log in from their machine.
- Hmm, so you can create accounts on your pc (with GoogleLogin), but not on other's? I think te easierr way is to allow the domain gmail.com just for testing. You can always delete all google id's from your database to restrict the access again. --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 18:41, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yes. I can create accounts on my pc with GoogleLogin, but not ono other's. Just added the domain gmail.

This is the pastebin of my configuration, if it of any use.
- Hmm, strange :/ I have tested your configuration locally and this works, too. Have you time for an IRC chat? You can find me at #wikimedia-mobile connect or #wikimedia-dev connect or #wikimedia-tech connect, username "FlorianSW", just open a private chat :)
- Öhm... a little late, but: Just for information (in case of someone find this discussion). The problem was tracked in bug 69199 and solved in git #a12ac08d. The problem can now be solved with a reload of the extension code. --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 21:23, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello. I note that you deleted this page, which was of course experimental. I would however have appreciated a short note on my talk page just saying why you had done so. Deltahedron (talk) 18:07, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello! Normally i don't inform, if i delete a test page. For test pages, please use the Sandbox. --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 05:22, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
- I was not asking what you did or did not do normally. I was suggesting that it would have been courteous to explain why you did it. In this particular case, the page was indeed part of a test made at Talk:Sandbox, discussed here. Deltahedron (talk) 06:45, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
- It would be really, really great, if you could note, that this is a test page for flow (e.g. with the link to this special test case) on the page, too. We (Jackmcbarn and me as one of several persons acting here) can not know, that this is a test for a feature in flow, so we delete this page. Nevertheless: I have unprotected the page now. But please made our work easier, by add a notice to test pages :) --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 07:02, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
- It was automagically created by flow there, not manually by Deltahedron, so that was something not to mention. I don't know what I wrote in there (I did so after you deleted it first time), as deleted is deleted and no longer viewable by me, so I can't say for sure if I gave some hint to the origin of that talk page. I don't know whether it's necessary to still have that page, as long as it's remnants and deletion history exist, it should be enough for the sandboxing, methinks. --Sänger S.G (talk) 11:44, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Sänger S.G: You wrote, that this is the sandbox, and that's why this page should be stay there :) But the page itself wasn't in the sandbox, and there was no relation to the flow testing. That's why the normal reaction is to delete this page and give a hint to our "real" Sandbox. @Deltahedron: posted some individual text (I wonder what happens if I type in here?), so i think it would be possible to insert a link to the flow thread next time, so we know, why you (or flow) created this page as a test :) In the next step it would be great, if you can add (if you end the test) an SLA to these pages, so we know, we can delete them :) --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 11:50, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
- Taking a look at the bug in question, I don't think actually creating the page was necessary to test it, but I've restored it nonetheless. Jackmcbarn (talk) 11:58, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for that, much appreciated. Deltahedron (talk) 16:40, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

- Can you please explain why you moved it ? I have not received an answer at the extension page, so I posted it a the help desk for more to see. Mlpearc (open channel) 21:30, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- Normally the users, who can help with problems related to an extension, are watching the extension talk page. So there is no need to post the question twice and (maybe) start two different discussions where no one knows, what was discussed where :) --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 10:00, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Resource Loader help with skin
[edit]Hi you have told me that using script or css directly in the php code is worng and that they should be moved out. I have moved out he css code but I doint know how to move out the .js code. The code I have is
var openDiv, $; function toggleDiv(divID) { $("#" + divID).fadeToggle(150, function() { openDiv = $(this).is(':visible') ? divID : null; }); } $(document).click(function(e) { if (!$(e.target).closest('#'+openDiv).length) { toggleDiv(openDiv); } }); function is_touch_device() { return !!('ontouchstart' in window); } $(document).ready(function() { if(is_touch_device()) { $('#usermenu > div').toggleClass('no-js js'); $('#usermenu .js div').hide(); $('#usermenu .js').click(function(e) { $('#usermenu .js div').fadeToggle(150); $('#usermenu').toggleClass('active'); e.stopPropagation(); }); $(document).click(function() { if ($('.usermenu .js div').is(':visible')) { $('.usermenu .js div', this).fadeOut(150); $('.usermenu').removeClass('active'); } }); } }); $(function () { $('.actionmenu > div').toggleClass('no-js js'); $('.actionmenu .js div').hide(); $('.actionmenu .js').click(function(e) { $('.actionmenu .js div').fadeToggle(150); $('.clicker').toggleClass('active'); e.stopPropagation(); }); $(document).click(function() { if ($('.actionmenu .js div').is(':visible')) { $('.actionmenu .js div', this).fadeOut(150); $('.clicker').removeClass('active'); } }); }); $(function () { $('#hamburgerIcon').click(function(e) { $('#mw-panel').fadeToggle(150); $('.clicker').toggleClass('active'); e.stopPropagation(); }); $('#hamburgerIcon').click(function() { if ($('#mw-panel').is(':visible')) { $('#mw-panel', this).fadeOut(150); $('.clicker').removeClass('active'); } }); }); $(function () { if(is_touch_device()) { $('#searchbar').click(function(e) { $('#p-search').fadeToggle(150); $('.clicker').toggleClass('active'); e.stopPropagation(); }); $('#searchbar').click(function() { if ($('#p-search').is(':visible')) { $('#p-search', this).fadeOut(150); $('.clicker').removeClass('active'); } }); } }); $(function () { $('#editbutton').click(function(e) { $('#left-navigation').fadeToggle(150); $('.clicker').toggleClass('active'); e.stopPropagation(); }); $('#editbutton').click(function() { if ($('#left-navigation').is(':visible')) { $('#left-navigation', this).fadeOut(150); $('.clicker').removeClass('active'); } }); });
in a metrolook.js file and this error comes up 'toggleDiv' is undefined
and I also have another script in the php code it is
<script src="<?php echo htmlspecialchars( $this->getSkin()->getSkinStylePath( 'overthrow.js' ) ) ?>"></script>
Please could you help me separate them into the .js file.

- Hi! You shoulw really read the manual for the ResourceLoader and look at example usages in other Extensions. It is definitly the false way to use script-Tags in the Template file :) If you want more help, you should ask in the IRC channel, it's much easier to help there, instead of messages on the talk page. --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 16:22, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hi I read the manual and looked at other extensions but nothing and where do I go to irc do you have the link please 151.229.250.233 16:36, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
- IRC, the best channel would be #wikimedia-dev connect i think. --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 17:04, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

- Ok thanks for giving link I have found this way it works
$(function () { $('img.custom3').click(function(e) { $('#bartile').fadeToggle(150); $('.clicker').toggleClass('active'); e.stopPropagation(); }); $('img.custom3').click(function() { if ($('#bartile').is(':visible')) { $('#bartile', this).fadeOut(150); $('.clicker').removeClass('active'); } }); });
But it expects me to click the arrow again to turn it off but I carnt since it is behind. I want to re add support for clicking any where to take it off screen please. 86.173.55.74 20:52, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

Starting conversion of LiquidThreads to Flow at mediawiki.org
[edit]Hello. I'm sending this to you, because you've been one of the top 50 users of LQT on mediawiki.org over the last 360 days,[1] and I wanted to make sure that you'd seen the announcement at Starting conversion of LiquidThreads to Flow at mediawiki.org. There are links in the topic-summary at the top, for other discussions (wikitech-l and Project:Current_issues), and a link to the planned process and timeline (scheduled to begin April 6, with smaller conversions at first). Please do test Flow out at Talk:Sandbox if you haven't tried it recently, and give any feedback/suggestions/requests at that main discussion location. Much thanks, Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 23:40, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Skins not in tarball
[edit]https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Manual:Skin_configuration&oldid=1505879&diff=prev
I made this edit after discussing on IRC. I was told that the skins were no longer included in the tarball and the docs were out of date.
- Now i was shocked for one second :D But i've checked it and downloaded the latest tarball and the skins are still bundled with it: Vector, MonoBook, Modern and CologneBlue. They are just not anymore in the mediawiki/core git repository, that's a different to the tarballs. If you download the tarball via the links of Download, you get a bundled version with mediawiki/core, some extensions and the skins i mentioned above :) Best, Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 12:50, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
The captcha codes
[edit]What an idiot I am. I didn't even notice I put that there! Can we get an admin to hide the edits please? NativeCat (talk) 23:45, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, LQT (LiquidThreads) doesn't support the deletion of specific revisions. I could try to remove the entire thread, but actually i'm not sure if that would delete all revisions, and that doesn't protect your data against anyone, who already read it. So the easiest and safest way would be to generate a new pair :) --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 23:57, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- Please delete it, I resolved issue anyway. NativeCat (talk) 03:06, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- I managed to hide all revisions, except the last one, but all answer are lost now, sorry for that. Your private ReCaptcha data isn't visible except for administrators. Nevertheless, you should generate a new pair of the keys. --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 18:06, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
Bots
[edit]
You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.
What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.
This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.
If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!
- The simple solution is to simply include the "rawcontinue" parameter with your request to continue receiving the raw continuation data (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&rawcontinue=1>). No other code changes should be necessary.
- Or you could update your code to use the simplified continuation documented at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Query#Continuing_queries (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&continue=>), which is much easier for clients to implement correctly.
Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.
Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.
Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:03, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Heiya Florian,
yesterday I rediscovered your repo at go2tech.de and found some extensions you created which may not just be useful for DroidWiki, e.g. the CookieWarning extension. If you need someone to encourage you publishing it on this wiki... :)
Cheers --[[kgh]] (talk) 14:10, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
- Hi @Kghbln: :)
- Thanks for the hint :P I was free and created the page by myself (after I updated the extension a bit :P). Best, --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 18:49, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
- Heiya, you rock! Thank you so much for putting this effort into this extension and for publishing it. It should now gradually pick up usage. I am sure. Cheers --[[kgh]] (talk) 21:59, 10 January 2016 (UTC) PS I fiddled a bit with the extension's page. Hope that you do not mind.
- It's a wiki! So feel free to edit whatever you want, as long as it is constructive and you've the user permission to do so :P Thanks for your edit! If you've suggestions to that extension (or anything else), feel free to contact me here ;) --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 22:01, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's a wiki! I used to say that all the time and even after 12 years this still sounds very true. :) I will try to do my very best. ;) Will do! Cheers --[[kgh]] (talk) 22:14, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
Please provide feedback on suggested improvements to the Code of Conduct
[edit]Thanks to everyone who’s helped work on the Code of Conduct so far.
People have brought up issues they feel were missed when working on "Unacceptable behavior" and "Report a problem". Consultants have also suggested changes in these same sections.
These are important sections, so please take a look at the proposed changes. I apologize that this feedback arrived later than planned, but I think this will create a better document.
If you prefer to give your opinion privately, feedback via e-mail is welcome at conduct-discussionwikimedia.org.

Please support the Sustainability Initiative!
[edit]Hi, Florianschmidtwelzow! Please allow me to follow up on a project that was discussed at the Wikimedia Conference in Berlin a couple of weeks ago:
I am writing you to ask for your support for the Sustainability Initiative, which aims at reducing the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement. Over the past two years, more than 250 Wikipedians from all over the world have come together to push the Wikimedia movement towards greater sustainability.
The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has recently passed a resolution stating that the Foundation is committed to seeking ways to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment. Now, we are working with the Wikimedia Foundation staff to have all Wikimedia servers run on renewable energy by 2019.
In order to demonstrate that this is an issue that the community really cares about, I would like to ask you to sign the project page as well. Thank you! --Gnom (talk) 16:13, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
Parameter useve in VisualEditorforgets the prefix parameter
[edit]Hi Florianschmidtwelzow, this is not resolved, if version 1.30.0-wmf.12 has been deployed in english Wikipedia. It is impossible to start a page with a prefix, i.e. in user space, via the inputbox, using VE. Parameter useve does not function properly, it forgets the prefix.--ManosHacker (talk) 08:49, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi MandoHacker :) The prefix parameter is not handled by VisualEditor, that's why it does not work. However, this has nothing to do with the task you linked. I commented on the new task you created :) Best, --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 11:46, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Florianschmidtwelzow, thanks for the fast reply. VE works well if fed properly. Inputbox should make the string a whole, and not send prefix as a parameter, to VE. If the whole string of a page to be created is typed and passed via Inputbox, VE creates it without any problem.--ManosHacker (talk) 12:04, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

Xenforo Oauth
[edit]Hi! Do you have any plans to fix Xenforo OAuth for the newer versions of Xenforo? It would be much appreciated! https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_talk:XenForoAuth
- Hi! :) I replied on the talk page, explaining that I do not maintain this extension anymore. Sorry for that :( Best, Florian
How we will see unregistered users
[edit]Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
