Add topicCan't save translation documentation
[edit]In a translate session ( language to: Malayalam ).
Happened to be: " User help " => " Help:Editing " which has 4 or 5 main areas, and in " Editing " first entry, that page.
Have the translation ready, can press ' publish', and it does.
To the right side is a panel called ' Documentation ', where i input some text ( Malayalam ), then press the ' Publish ' button, getting the " Error saving documentation ". โย Preceding unsigned comment added by Arzoper (talk โข contribs) 18:14, 26 July 2020 (UTC)โ
- Because we blocked editing documentation by new users because of vandalism ratio. Make some edits and you will have autoconfirmed status. Translation documentation are intended here to be in english. Future questions about mediawiki.org can be asked here. --wargo (talk) 18:33, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
5 new concerns for a newbie translator
[edit]1 should i send thru a Public thanks to Wargo, or does one not clutter per guideline somewhereย ? Chose not to thank Wargo publicly, though such was my intention at least privately.
2 in translate edit box i happened many times to click the tiny selector at bottom right for charset. Always selecting same on my machine. Once i chose option to " not show it again ", and now cannot find a wau to bring back that selector. Mmm..ย ?
3 Wargo mentions that the Documentation panel to the right is meant to be in English. My help request on this, above, from my making an entry in Malayalam. Which was being done because out of the blue the panel was showing some other language ( was Hindi in the Nagiri script, latter usually called Devanagiri ). So i had wanted to quiz about that.
4 The default font-size for Malayalam. It is so small as to make me go blind, possibly. How to make it be like the language usually left of it by name Tamil. i have noticed the same problem with Simplified Chinese. Russian or many others read comfortably nicely. Would a different font helpย ?
5. Which brings up the ml ' short-o ' problem. Keyboard 'A' with Inscript provides a ml 'long-o' think ml 'O' (both เต'mAtra' and the vowel เด on the 2-cases), BUT no ml 'short-o' think ml 'o'. LIKEWISE on its 'mAtra'. Now on this missing 'mAtra' i am able to play a trick - - by typing a ml เต 'e' (sound) [pops in BEFORE the consonant], then COOLY typing a ml เดพ 'A' (sound) AFTER the consonant, which should NOT be possible. Like ' เดเต ' That's the 'mAtra' popping on both sides of a 'k' (sound). And see, how small the font-size is, like a 8-point. Need 10, 11 or even 12 point on MediaWiki.--Arzoper (talk) 17:43, 27 July 2020 (UTC)--Arzoper (talk) 17:43, 27 July 2020 (UTC)--Arzoper (talk) 17:43, 27 July 2020 (UTC)--Arzoper (talk) 17:43, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
Translating, single link ' wmin ' fails of 27 countries...
[edit]May be this is a Phabricator issue. But linking MediaWiki articles to inter-wiki, and/or inter-language could be relevant in translation. So i get to page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Interwiki_linking#Interlanguage_links ( kestroke ' page up ' two or three times to " Linking to international chapters ". 24 of the 27 countries came in within a second or so. Serbia, Israel and Taiwan failed. Serbia on " over resource limit ", Israel on " too busy " or such readable notice in EN, but on a second try began to do the IN thing, but came in after about a minute or so, India simple timing out beyond 20 minutes.
The issue is this, two-fold: 1) may be to be like ' apache ', checks on mirrors, whether reachable, last reached time, 2) India, unlike most other countries has sub-nations really, most recognizeable in the 10 or so major language (and scripts) seen on MediaWiki page headers. In this regard much LIKE EU, for naming cz, de, fr, po etc. It appears we need " sub-nation " by language, say a ' wmml ' which could bring up the " free computing of ml, Malayalam " (sub-nation happens to be State of Kerala, the only " 100% literate " state of IN ). That site is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swathanthra_Malayalam_Computing which comes up in a second. They pioneered open source in India, with Kerala, with Richard Stallman, etc.
PRC (China) could be stated to have a similar situation if we wanted to consider the Canton sub-nation, but from what i have seen 'zh' language seems to go far, and well, across all their " sub-nation " provinces, including Canton. There is NO link ' wmch (country) nor wmzh (language ' in the list of 27. But they are definitely busy translating MediaWiki pages. Arzoper (talk) 17:42, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
Your Translation
[edit]Hi, are you using any tools for translations? It looks like you are copy-pasting the translations using Google Translator or some other translation tools. Please don't blindly translate from Englishs to malayalam. --Kiran Gopi (talk) 23:35, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

- Please continue the discussion here: Thanks for confirming that you are not using any tools for the translations, but the translation not looks natural. Please don't translate word by word it looks very awkward. Requesting you to familiarize yourself with the common names/terms which we are globally using on Malayalam. Please go through Malayalam Wikipedia or other sister projects to understand the usage. Also requesting you to stop the translation now. --Kiran Gopi (talk) 19:01, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
Malayalam translation of pages.
[edit]Please stop doing bad Malayalam translation of pages. I think you don't know the language. If you are not a native speaker or don't know Malayalam very well please don't attempt to translate it. And if you want the pages in Malayalam please put a request in Wikimedians of Kerala User Group Talk page. So that anyone with good knowledge in the language can attempt the translation. Malayalam translations
[edit]Hi, Thanks for your time and effort for Malayalam related contributions. Malayalam is a widely spoken language but contributors to wikipedia is very less. Unfortunately your Malayalam is not comprehensible and not according to spelling, usage of native speakers. Because of this, volunteers time is getting wasted to revert or fix it. Please be respectful to volunteers and Malayalam wikipedians. I appreciate your enthusiasm to learn and practice Malayalam language, but don't use wikipedia for it. It is not helping anybody. Thanks!
