Wikidata is a free linked database that can be read and edited by both humans and machines. Wikidata acts as central storage for the structured data of its Wikimedia sister projects including Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wikisource, and others. Wikidata also provides support to many other sites and services beyond just Wikimedia projects! The content of Wikidata is available under a free license, exported using standard formats, and can be interlinked to other open data sets on the linked data web.

Targets:

  • Development and maintenance of knowledge database about our world which can be read and edited by machines and humans.
  • Central provision of database content in all languages of the Wikimedia projects.

Wikibase
Wikibase is the software that powers Wikidata but can be used for other projects too. It consists of a bunch of software components and libraries for creating, managing and sharing structured data. It is an open source project and everyone is welcome to join the development.

Targets: Development of MediaWiki extention for the administration of structured data.

Catgraph is a simple and fast in-memory graph database which supports basic queries such as recursive category search and category intersection search in Wikipedia categories. It backs several tools such as Article List Generator and DeepCat Gadget.
