Topic on Project:Village Pump

Hello, all. Talk pages project/Replying is ready to deploy here to all editors at MediaWiki.org. This will only affect old-style wikitext talk pages, not Flow boards (like this page). If you want to try it out, then add a comment to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project_talk:Sandbox?dtenable=1 (with a signature), and then look for the [reply] button.

If you have any concerns, please let me know.

Note: Users have to enable the discussion tools in their preferences (beta features)

For the above link to work, they don’t have to. On other pages, they have to, but this topic is exactly about making this setting unnecessary.

Interesting. I didn't notice the URL. I posted the message because it didn't work as advertised:

• When this topic was posted, the talk page didn't exist. No [reply] button was present, as expected.
• I added a new talk section.
• Because I went with the normal edit → save workflow, the resulting URL didn't have the ?dtenable=1 URL and the [reply] button wasn't appearing, until I enabled the feature in preferences :)

Now that we've posted something there, it should be easier.

I am very excited to see this happen, the reply tool is fantastic and so are all the people who've worked on it.

I hope it's not too early to ask if we can disable Flow/StructuredDiscussions on all new talk pages once reply tool is available for everyone.

I think we'd want to wait at least until the new automatic topic subscription feature is sorted. One of the problems with discussions at MediaWiki.org is staying in touch with people who don't regularly check their watchlist here.

I think that would be reasonable; let's give it a week or so for last-minute feedback before making that change?
