A minor point: step 2 explicitly calls for a Google group as a touch point. Is there a reason for using proprietary technology with questionable relationship to the Wikimedia privacy policy, when that technology is not even considered particularly good by today's standards? (Meanwhile, the upgrade of our mailing list software from its ten-year-old version to the actively developed branch is only happening because a volunteer has chosen to invest their free time into it.)
