In the past, it was enough to select the word in the original text when linking the word in an article. In the current version it is difficult to give internal link. When you select the word in the original text, you should be given the "link" option.

We are working to support using the links in the source document to easily add them to the translation (more details in this ticket).
With the new version of Content translation, the editing surface has been replaced with the one Visual Editor uses. That makes it easy to deal with wikitext complexities in the translation, but it still requires some adjustments for the aspects where the translation tool uses the editing surface in unique ways (such as inspecting the read-only original document).
