Quote from here https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Water_cooler/technical

"While real time updating of watch lists is nice I do not always keep the recent changes list open in a separate tab. Instead I have implemented a user script which shows recent changes below the footer of each page, and -- only when single clicked -- it updates. https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/User:Gryllida/js/showRcAtPageEnd-0.1.js For me at this wiki this has proven to be an effective strategy for monitoring recent changes each day and each hour at some points, I recommend that you experiment with something similar and do not include the recent changes live feed in the present form. --Gryllida (talk) 02:19, 6 June 2018 (UTC)"

Thank you for your message.

I've tried to call your script on Mediawiki.org, but it is apparently not working here. :/ What am I supposed to see?

The goal of your script is to see is there are recent changes without leaving the page you are in?

I guess you should be seeing something like what you see in the linked screenshot. I guess you can't load scripts from external sites.

Maybe I should use my common.js, which can load trans-wiki scripts for sure.

Anyway, I think that script is really cool for people who want to patrol small wikis in an advanced manner. We can create a page listing gadgets for recent changes that may be useful for advanced users.
