Thank you for your copyediting on Help:VisualEditor/User guide/Links.

Are you working on that task for the Google Code-In challenge?

I've also noticed your changes concerning how to create links to files. What you have written is not correct: link to a file doesn't requires colons before File: anymore. Please consider to test if the tool works the way it is described before upgrading the documentation.

Clockery (talkcontribs)

Oh, okay, thank you! My bad, I'm sorry :)

And yes, I am working on the Google Code-in task. I've added the <translate> tags, and Special:MyLanguage/ prefixes to all the links. Is that all that has to be done?

Sorry about the incorrect info again :) I didn't realise it had been updated, and when I tested the link as is on the page, it showed the image instead of the link to the image, which was why I updated it.

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

No problem for all of that.

Add translate tags and Special:MyLanguage links is not enough. If that was the only thing to do, the task wouldn't be a 5 days long one! ;)

How have you tested it?

I figured xD but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask, so :)

> How have you tested it?

I included the text [[File:Wiki.png]] on the page and previewed it. It showed up as an image, not a file link. (I wasn't using Visual Editor, though)

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

> I wasn't using Visual Editor, though

So that's not a surprise if it is not working. :)

As described on the GCI task, you are working on marking a page for translation, not improving a page content (I however appreciate your proofreading). ;)

Clockery (talkcontribs)

Yeah, while figuring out what exactly to do in the page, I ended up proofreading as well along the way. Got carried away somewhat xD

Also, quick question. How should the <tvar> tags be used? I haven't really found them documented anywhere.

Added more translate tags to group the text by heading, and to image descriptions, and also added tvar tags to all links.

Could you please take a look at the page now?

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Good progresses on your work!

You should add tvar for anything that is formatting, like templates or <code> tagged elements.

Also, when you have a closing translate tag immediately followed by another translate tag, you can remove them. For instance

the end of a sentence.</translate>
<translate>
The beginnings of another

can just be

the end of a sentence.

The beginnings of another

with one blank like between (that's important to separate the two translation blocks that will be created). It also works if the element before/after is a title.

You can also cleanup the wikitext a bit, to have closing brackets just after images (I don't know why they have been moved).

Clockery (talkcontribs)

I've added tvar to the templates and code tags, and cleaned it up a bit. Also removed the redundant <translate> tags. Could you take a look at it, please?

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

That's almost perfect! :)

One item will break when I'll mark the page for translation, and there is one thing that shouldn't be translatable which is.

Clockery (talkcontribs)

I *think* I've fixed those issues, could you check?

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

You have. I've marked the page for translation.

You can do a translation if you want (to test) and submit the task for review.

Clockery (talkcontribs)

I've tried one translation (into ml) to test the translation space. Also submitted the task for review. Thank you so much! :D

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

You can translate the whole page if you want. that would help some users. :)

Clockery (talkcontribs)

Sure, will do :) I'm just not confident about using the right technical language in my language, but I'll figure it out.
