Hi @Pigsonthewing. Thanks for pushing on spreading the ORCID presence and use-cases. :) For this specific table, I'd like to remove the ORCID IDs as a column since the goal of this table is to provide a concise way for us to communicate who the Research team is working with and whether this collaboration is under NDA or not. I'd like to keep this table as simple as possible. The ORCID information can be added to the researchers' pages if they're up for it.
This is very disappointing; and a retrograde step. The inclusion of ORCID iDs does not detract from the goal you state; indeed they give clarity to "who the Research team is working with". Your colleagues were supportive, at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:ORCID Please reconsider.
@Pigsonthewing Thanks for the ping. I'd like to ask that we keep this table as simple as possible for the audience this table is intended for (those who want to quickly check who the Research team is working with, their affiliation, what projects they're working with the Research team on, and whether they're under NDA). I'm happy to support you to bring more presence for ORCID in the research space, but this specific table is better to stay as simple as possible. I hope you understand the reasoning and are not disappointed.
@LZia (WMF): I understand that the page is for "those who want to quickly check who the Research team is working with, their affiliation..."; but the use of ORCID IDs does not detract from that; it aids it.
Furthermore, there is no alternative venue where we provide ORCID iDs, for those who do not have them on their user pages.
I understand the drive to keep the table simple, but I'm worried about how a lot of my curation work gathering ORCIDs was lost in the revert. Maybe we can format the table better in order to include the ORCIDs. E.g. by using the {{investigator}} template.
I just created {{Wikimedia_Research/Collaborator}} and used it to update the table with a muted visual representation of an ORCID link. How about that?
@Pigsonthewing Aaron is working on a solution. That should address your point. :)
