Testing user talk page notifications
Topic on User talk:Nenntmichruhigip
Nice, I didn't get any notification, not even on this wiki's watchlist (why isn't the user page watched by default?) or something (shouldn't the orange bar always work if not explictly disabled?). Good that I wondered whether the link to this talk page was red a few days ago :-D
P.S.: Oh, and why the fuck did I post this four minutes ago the moment I saved? Yes, I know, that's the time I opened the page (or the edit form?). But I feel like that's a privacy issue ("how long did it take to type" isn't usually public). Could you please forward this to the appropriate bug tracker?
Strange! You should always be notified of things that happen on your user talk page, no matter what. The fact that you didn't get notified sounds like a bug.
Re "four minutes ago": I'm almost certain that's not related to how long you took to write it, but rather to your computer's clock being off compared to our server's clock. If our server says you posted it at 12:02 and your computer thinks it's 12:06, you'll see "4 minutes ago", even if that's just because your clock is 4 minutes ahead of ours.
(Relying on the user's local computer clock is not ideal for this reason.)
Only watchlist again. So, I'm suggesting to test again on frwiki, to (hopefully) get the global thing done.
Re four minutes: Your assumption appears to be correct. Couldn't yet convince my sysadmin to use NTP, and four minutes is not only how long it took to both write and edit the above, but also the current offset of that system's local clock… :-)
What do you mean exactly by testing again on frwiki? Anything you'd like me to do?
I mean you posting something to my talk page over there, so I can verify whether or not the counter on dewiki (where I enabled global notifications) gets blue. Verifing that issue[1] why we met here, remember? ;-)
[1]: [[Topic:T0gp3tedeg2jljjt]] (I don't get how to change a links text in this new talk page thingy, and also don't know why it doesn't appear as a link in this second attempt of inserting… Anyway, I guess you see where this link is supposed to point to)
Done, since I got a new welcome post.
