Red interwiki links on each page

I have tried opening several translations deleted all of those tries as I have found there is no machine translation to or from Czech language supported yet. Looking at Apertium it will take some time as Czech language is one big mine field for machine translation.

My problem is now I am getting red interwiki links suggesting translations and nowhere to disable them, even for languages I have started translations for and deleted them directly after it. The only way I have found to get rid of these links was to disable and reenable the whole Content Translation tool. So is there going to be some setting for this? Lower at #Red interwiki links, 20+ days ago, it seems to me some such settings page was promised.

Hello, we currently have a few issues on phabricator that are being fixed. Its scheduled for completion by next week: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T94869. Thanks for letting us know. It helps us move around the priority of things that need attention. We are really sorry about this problem.

Hello @Utar we now have a new machine translation system - Yandex that can be used for translating into Czech from many different languages. You can see it here: https://translate.yandex.com/ . We are hoping this will be helpful for users of the Czech Wikipedia. What do you think? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for info.

Is Yandex going via English (or, ehm, via Russian) when translating between non-English (Russian) languages? Czech language has quite flexible word order so word-to-word translations via English can get really crappy results. I don't know Russian enough to be able to say how it works as midstep but being of Slavic group may probably help. Google translations from Czech to Slovak language and vice versa are on the other hand quite often used at cswiki because IIRC there are the only exception of translating Czech language where Google Translator goes directly and not via English.

Thanks for allowing another option in the tool. I will see if others in Czech Wikipedia have noticed this change and if they are using it/going to use it.

The GoogleTrans gadget will already do machine translation from from many other languages to Czech and vice versa. It can use either the Google or Yandex translation engines. You can pick which one you wish to use. See the comments below for help links and more explanation over the gadget. I have used the gadget to translate 120 french articles into the english wikipedia. For french-english translations it is quite good, although you usually get a decent translation in very bad english, which you have to fix up. I don't know how the Czech translation is. For installing the gadget in your private common.js file in the Czech wikipedia see the instructions in the comment below.

Hi @Utar, this has not been enabled on the Czech Wikipedia yet. It needs a configuration change to make that happen. About the translation quality, perhaps you can check that on https://translate.yandex.com/ . There are multiple languages from which you can translate into Czech, and some of them use an intermediary. Thanks.

I tried to translate an article from English to Ukranian. You had said there was machine translation for this language pair now. I didn't notice any, in fact the Content Translation system said there was no machine translation for the language pair.

Hi @Endo999, English to Ukranian is available through Yandex but not enabled on Content Translation. Its a configuration switch that needs to be done before users can see it on Content Translation. Thanks.

You can try out the GoogleTrans gadget content translation feature. You enable the gadget in your destination wiki (see and for help on this). The Yandex translation engine is supported now if you select it in the language change box of the gadget. Once the gadget is set in the common.js file of your destination wiki, you can select a paragraph in the middle column of the content translation system (the paragraph to be translated), hold the CTRL and ALT keys down at the same time. Then the paragraph will be translated to the destination wiki language and the HTML markup will be kept. This aids in translation. I have done 75 simple French articles to English this way.

You can translate, using the Yandex translation engine, from Russian to Ukranian, vice versa. In fact any of the language pairs supported by Yandex or Google are possible.
