An IP at en:wp brought up a point about losing editors. They tried 5 different usernames and all were rejected for being too similar to existing ones. Could we put a link and message to the w:Wikipedia:Request an account in the pink rejection box? That would be tricky. Not all wikis have a request queue for accounts, so this would need to be an enwiki-only customization.
