I'd like to have SVG files displayed as SVG images (i.e. not converted PNGs) on my freshly installed MW 1.17.4. I've enabled the svg file extension and set $wgSVGConverter = false. But when I add an SVG image to a page, e.g., , it is displayed as a link to the file, e.g. "File:Small uppercase letter X.svg", not as an image. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I circumvented the problem by creating a custom tag extension that uses the html5 "embed" tag to show SVGs. Works perfectly -- except that for some reason that I can't figure out, MediaWiki inserts a "pre" tag around the embed, making it look ugly. Any idea how I could disable this auto-pre?
