when I go to the special page it has two buttons add file and add zip archive.
When I try to add a file I get the following

What am I missing?
The wrong specialpage is given at the upload link. Or you can't use a pretty URL (/index.php/Article), so /index.php?title=Article is in use. But I can't really help you. You gave neither an URL nor a full title of the specialpage or an image. Please tell me more.

This occurs even though the http://www.independentscientist.com/wiki/index.php?title=Special:DocxConverter page seems to work properly.
It's quite logical that this can NOT work. You already used a question mark after index.php. You have to use a & ;-) And as you can see, this works: http://www.independentscientist.com/wiki/index.php?title=Special:DocxConverter&action=add
