Talk:Wikimedia Apps/Team/iOS/Maps service
Hi John, I replied on phab back then, but just pinging here to let you know we expanded the privacy section of this page as well. Let me know if you have any follow-up questions.
- The WMF's maps and MapBox do not have support for screen reading or text size change, and it is not clear how or if such support could be added.
The Mapbox iOS SDK does support VoiceOver. There does remain some further room for improvement, but the basic functionality that the Wikipedia application would use should already be accessible. This issue tracks adding Dynamic Type support, which would be straightforward to add. (Even in the absence of built-in support, it is possible to implement Dynamic Type support inside the Wikipedia application itself using roughly 30–40 lines of code.)
Thanks for the pointers to Accessibility patches. According to our accessibility consultant, MapBox support has improved, but from a user perspective is still not at the level of making a completely smooth experience for the blind. However, at this point the core issue is more the limitations of the foundations maps services and styles, rather than MapBox or accessibility. Once that blocker is solved we look forward to checking back in on the progress of built-in accessibility in the SDK.
