Interesting but...

[edit]

Good idea albeit it could be a privacy issue for many users (due to which it would be good to make it easy to disable these). However, why don't you add more recommendations to the Main feed first. It's really bizarre to me that people are thinking of showing such recommendations in search and explain how interested people are in article suggestions but at the same time there's just one tile for article recommendations and one can't even swipe it to show other recommendations. Even worse, it will show the same recommendations as last time you used the app if you didn't open new articles in the meantime instead of making sure people see fresh recommendations every time. Hello @Prototyperspective,
I am Amal Ramadan, Sr. Movement Communications Specialist supporting the apps team. Thank you for your feedback and for engaging with the apps team, I’m reaching out to ensure you received our lead PM reply on this Phab. ticket, that we will revisit the ticket you raised, when we revisit the Explore feed.
Please feel free to share any additional feedback or suggestions in the future—we’re always happy to hear from you and value your input! ARamadan-WMF (talk) 17:33, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks. In that short response it says when [the team] revisit[s] the explore feed but it does not contain any information when that is or whether that is planned. It could be in a decade from now. It would make sense to bundle related things together, like anything related to the Explore feed. It also makes sense to prioritize issues that can be implemented relatively quickly. And also to implement app issues first that make the app more engaging and interesting before working on many of its other functionalities since that could significantly increase the usefulness and impact of any other app work as the app could then have more users and more use per user. That's my thoughts on this. Prototyperspective (talk) 17:51, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your thoughts! Yes, the response mentioned when we start working on this because the team has a plan set for the fiscal year, as is the case with all teams in the Foundation. You can view the full plan for the 2024/2025 fiscal year here:
Wikimedia Foundation Annual Plan/2024-2025/Product & Technology OKRs
As you mentioned, it makes sense to bundle related tasks together, and that’s exactly what we do. When we start working on the Explore feed, we triage and include all the related Phabricator tickets.
We really appreciate your continued engagement and are always here for any future feedback or questions. ARamadan-WMF (talk) 08:35, 4 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
