Redesign of user hub

1
Summary by RichardHeigl

Thanks to MacFan4000 finished

RichardHeigl (talkcontribs)

I tried to implent a redesign for this hub. Here's a draft version: User:RichardHeigl/Draft

Two problems: the language box is not displayed, and I'm not shure about the translation marker tags (I deleted them in the draft).

If somebody can help me with this, we could redesign this page an the developer and sysadmin hub. They are among the most visited pages and haven't changed for many years. :-)

embed content in own MediaWiki

I want to embed content from Wikipedia on my own MediaWiki.

What I have learned so far is that I can use something like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna?action=render#Etymology to get a plain (HTML) view of the content. But how can I embed this content in my own MediaWiki?

Can you please point me to the right place to ask or even an help article?

good morning!

Maybe I'm turning to the wrong address, if so please direct me.

I started with the problem of adding a new language to script welcome.py in pywikibot. I created the necessary pages from the bot and added a text to the text. But I can not fix the changes

:

Git.exe push --progress "origin" master: master

Remote: Unauthorized

Fatal: Authentication failed for 'https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/pywikibot/core.git/ь

But I'm registered at https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/

Help me please!

Why would a user need root access to the server in order to set up or manage MW

if protocol relativity mandatory or merely recommended

A difference of views has become apparent in Wikipedia about whether URLs must be protocol-relative or it's only recommended that they be so. While I did read the Wikitech section as mandatory, I suppose one could argue that it's only mandatory if one wishes "to make HTTP and HTTPS coexist happily", which we normally do, in which case it could be considered to be recommended and not mandatory. And I may have found a case in which flexibility may be better. Is protocol relativity mandatory? Either way, the Wikitech section should be clarified, but I can't log in to do so or even to start a talk page there. Thank you.

@Nick Levinson I definitely concur with your argument and justification regarding making HTTPS, versus simply HTTP, a Mandatory Protocol, as a result of computer users' views on Security and Privacy in the Digital Age. Also, is my understanding that Google has made this a mandatory practice as of late, automatically redirecting safe websites to HTTPS, and informing users of the potential security risks by viewing a website which only uses HTTP. As we know, users and subscribers can be deleteriously harmed or potentially endangered, i.e. Viruses or Malware, by using an unsecured IP Protocol such as HTTP.
