Add topicSkinning project
[edit]Would a skinning project be considered? Are there any current skinning needs? Is there a central skinning home where I should go to find expert opinions? Jesse Groppi 22:36, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Skinning MediaWiki is a nightmare. I think if someone wanted to rework the skinning system to make it easy, and reliable, that would be a great project.

- This would be a great idea! I riffed on it a little bit (suggesting http://drupal.org/project/zen as inspiration) and put it on the main ideas page. -- RobLa 01:08, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
- There was discussion on one of the mailing lists a few weeks ago about rewriting the skinning system and I believe a branch was even created, so perhaps if anyone wants to do skinning works that they could coordinate with that person, since it wouldn't make sense to have two rewrites of the same thing at the same time when people could combine the efforts? - It's Jack Phoenix, you should check out his write up.

- As someone that has designed a skin, I can say I agree completely! However, I've thought about it, and I'm not sure the scope of this idea really fits into the scope of GSOC. Maybe another student could fit it in, but I think it would be too much for me. This is definitely something I would like to work on post-GSOC, though.
- Instead, I'm going with a somewhat simpler project that would have several functional effects on at least one WMF project and an open education project that I am a member of. Jesse Groppi 16:49, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Students need to submit proposals
[edit]If Students don't submit proposals at http://socghop.appspot.com/gsoc/org/list_proposals/google/gsoc2010/wikimedia by April 9, then they won't have slots assigned. Who wants to contact all the students who have signed up so far with this information? I don't have time right now. 99.27.201.226 04:14, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Commons Commander (CC)
[edit]I readded the suggestion. While I couldn't mentor a student myself, I would try to make myself available to test a live installation at Commons (extension or working from toolserver as it does now). The tool was developed by Magnus Manske. Please contact me at Commons if you want more information on the current features/functionality of the tool. -- Commons:User:Docu / Docu 10:30, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
