Andre Klapper and Guillaume Paumier kicked off an evaluation of Wikimedia's project management tools. Guillaume prepared a consultation page with topics for stakeholders and improved it together with Andre. It will initially be sent to the teampractices mailing list and individual stakeholders. To facilitate getting input, talking to individual stakeholders via Hangouts and holding an IRC discussion are also considered.

Andre Klapper reached out to the teampractices mailing list as well as individual stakeholders, asking users to share their workflow and needs regarding project management and tracking tools. Guillaume Paumier summarized all that content into consolidated requirements; those are now in the process of being compared to features offered by available tools, in order to assemble a shortlist of candidates for community discussion.

[edit]

After summarizing community input into consolidated requirements, Andre Klapper and Guillaume Paumier listed the different options mentioned during the consultation process. Those go from keeping the status quo to changing a single tool, to consolidating most tools into one. They also continued to research the main candidates by reading articles and testing demo sites. Once the list of options has been shortened collaboratively, the community RFC will start.

[edit]

On March 4th, Guillaume and Andre called for discussing the different options on the teampractices and wikitech-l mailing lists in order to shorten the list of candidates. A reminder email was sent on March 14th to teampractices and wikitech-l.

Guillaume Paumier and Andre Klapper reached out to the teampractices and wikitech-l mailing lists in order to shorten the list of options that can come out of this review process. They also hosted a lively IRC office hour to give an overview of the current situation, answer questions and discuss the first version of the related RFC.

[edit]

On April 14, the Request for comment was finalized and a related FAQ published. The RfC was announced on the wikitech-l, mediawiki-l and teampractices mailing lists, asking everybody for feedback on the RfC itself, discussion on its talk page, actively trying out proposed "Phabricator" in a testing instance, and creating tickets in the test instance under the "Wikimedia Phabricator" project for functionality that is missing.
