Project:Requests/User rights/Grind24
Appearance
- Requested user-rights: Administrator.
Along with few other users, helps with speedy deletions but has no deletion button. With the recent flow of mass spam attacks which disrupt our watchlists, every help is appreciated. Grind24 is a rather cross-wiki user and an administrator on some other wikis as well, where I don't see drama or complaints. Nemo 21:39, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose I appreciate his help, especially given the severity of the recent attack, but based on his record of hat collection and immaturity, I have to oppose.--Jasper Deng (talk) 21:42, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- As a bureaucrat concerned with hat collection on one of the wikis you're presumably referring to, I think the best way to combat hat collection is to give more flags where they're needed and less where they're just easy. Nemo 22:12, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- I don't want to encourage the practice though. To be clear, I'm referring to Meta, the French Wikipedia, Wikidata, and a few other wikis when I mention his hat collection.--Jasper Deng (talk) 22:26, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hat collection gets worse if we encourage a cursus honorum perception. The wikis you mention don't have a special need of active sysops as MediaWiki.org does now (my watchlist is a minefield currently) and they also don't care about what flags people have here. Nemo 22:31, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- Adminship is not candy to give out. Even if we don't treat it as "cursus honorum", I have the feeling that this user will do so anyways. The solution to hat collection is to simply refuse hat collecting rights requests like this one. When a hat collector realizes how futile it is, they will get bored and stop. If we hand out adminship like candy, it would create the perception that hat collection is a legitimate and easy-to-do practice. I don't want that.--Jasper Deng (talk) 00:50, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
