A gadget is JavaScript or CSS code, stored on a wiki page, that changes the appearance and behavior of MediaWiki. Gadgets provide helpful features for wiki users. This page documents the process for managing gadgets on mediawiki.org.

Available gadgets

Some gadgets are enabled by default, but most gadgets need to be enabled to be used. Logged-in users can enable gadgets in the Gadgets tab of their user preferences.

Propose a gadget

To propose making a gadget available to all users on mediawiki.org, post to Project:Village pump with a description of the gadget and a link to your code.

Promote a gadget

Once a gadget has been reviewed on Project:Village pump, interface administrators can make the gadget available by adding it to MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition. For complete instructions, see Extension:Gadgets.
