Improving this message for mediawiki.org newcomers

Hi, new users of mediawiki.org could get a better first email from us. Especially now that the new Account creation user experience is coming and we are putting an emphasis on Project:New contributors. English Wikipedia is improving their welcome email. There is also Template:Welcome but I wonder who is using it nowadays. In the worst case we could keep them aligned. Before attempting to modify anything: is anybody else watching this page and interested in this? Any objections a priori?--Qgil (talk) 22:02, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
