Is there a way to define tags in LocalSettings.php so that end users doesn't need to add them manually?

There really should be a way for users with the (changetags) permission to be able to remove tags from deleted revisions. This would be especially useful for sites where pages in certain namespaces can't be undeleted once deleted.

There are some sites out there that have restricted the ability to undelete pages in certain namespaces, but haven't restricted the ability to delete pages in those namespaces.

Not being able to remove tags from deleted revisions is a real problem for me. As one of the wikis I administrate have 8,716 deleted revisions to remove a specific tag from before the software will allow me to remove the tag from the remaining 5,000 revisions.

If there are any methods that one can use to remove tags from deleted revisions, please let me know so that I can work towards removing the tag from 8,716 deleted revisions. And then I'll be able to delete the tag altogether.

If I'm not mistaken, it might be possible to do this via Special:ApiHelp and/or Special:ApiSandbox. Though the few methods I've tried so far either haven't worked. Or I'm doing them wrong.

Niether do I. But these are change tags, you can add them to changes.

I thought "tags" are so fundamental feature in all CMS (and many other stuff), but I don't know why MediaWiki don't support it, this is so important feature to manage information. Enumerative classification (traditional hierarchical tree structure) and Faceted classification (tag, or hashtag) are 2 major way in information classification and organization, is there any way this is still not a core feature in MediaWiki?

Maybe there was no demand? Wikis usually "tag" pages using the other system (ie. categories) or templates.

Yes you are right, thanks for reminding me, MediaWiki categories are equivalence to tags in other CMS. But "it seems" unless using extension (like Extension:Multi-Category Search), there is no "native" way to do a searching with one category, or multiple category, maybe I'm wrong?

Right, no native way AFAIK. But this is where extensions arise.

I haven't found a built-in way of using tags, but I have used a workaround by placing keywords/tags separated by commas between HTML Comment tags in my articles.

Could we please add a Pywikibot tag?

Currently we can't search for Pywikibot transactions in the Wikidata item history.

Examples:

• Example with Pywikibot (no tag available)
• Simulation like with Wikidata UI (using the tagfilter=wikidata-ui)

I have developed a gadget that enhances the process of adding translations to a Wiktionary entry. It performs an edit action on the page via API. At the same time, a locally defined tag is applied to the revision through the corresponding API parameter: ?action=edit&tags=xxx. I have noticed that for this to work, the editor must have the applychangetags user right (do not confuse with changetags). On WMF wikis, it is granted by default to all logged-in users. Is there a reason why it is not for unregistered users, too?

It's possible to add a tag to an edit checking the useragent of the user? I want to add a tag for edits made from a special application that uses the API.
