I think there is something missing here on the help page - clearly this can do "something", and it looks nice - but I do not know what I am to do?

I think that part of my problems is that I can not select 'Project' from "page title" drop down, i can select 'User' or 'My Wiki'?


1st - I made one of each - but where/when does these HUBs appear, when I go to the HUB pages i do not see a member list, and I am still a bit blank on what is a "feature", my guess it that that is a Wiki page... please provide examples? I guess I would eventually like to add a complete namespace, or search/select pages from a category... (how) can I do that?


2nd I have a hard time understanding what the transcludelistdoes - when i set it up like {{transcludelist:Project:User:My HUB}}

or {{transcludelist:User:My HUB}}I get some warning like User:My HUB "User:<my hub> is not a Collaboration List page..

{{transcludelist:Project:My HUB}} gives similar problems. When I do this, it looks like a new namespace is made 'project', but it has no link to the User or My wiki namespaces?

Where is the "media browser" looking - and what about the 'user' option?

This looks very nice, however when I try to add the picture nothing gets listed by the "media browser" - where should I place files/images so they will be listed?

I tried to select the Page title prefix 'user', this gives me this error message: User account "<my hub name here>" is not registered. Please check if you want to create/edit this page.


Once done testing this I will probably want to delete the test HUB, can I do that? (or) I also Imagine that I would like to "archive" hubs, in case the work is over... can I do that?

I assume that this test is to check software functionality, and that the user manual (help pages/whatever) will be developed in response to user questions and comments, and we will write it as we fumble along so that later users will have less need for fumbling.

Are you referring to CollaborationKit or to Flow? As far as CollaborationKit goes, the goal here is to figure out where the pain points are and make adjustments accordingly, whether to the code itself or to the documentation. Feedback is thus very useful.

(As far as Flow goes, I think that it's used by default for talk pages on this wiki, for better or for worse.)

Never used flow before and didn't know what it was. That clears up that set of questions. I will just live with flow as it is here, and basically irrelevant. A bit troublesome having to learn two new systems in parallel though.

I was having trouble getting CollaborationKit to do what I wanted, though to some extent hindered by not knowing what I wanted. Partly because it is not very clear what is possible, and also because there are not many hints/suggestions etc. I have looked at a few existing projects on a similar format and am getting some ideas of what is possible, but have no idea of how to go about it yet. I will get back to playing around later as it is now getting late and I have a busy offline day tomorrow.

That is a good point. It is pretty open ended, with not so much direction to help you construct a project. I will make a note to improve on this in the future.

How do I edit a topic once saved?

Is this possible? If not, why not, If it is, there should be something indicating how to do it.

It seems that add topic means save.

I just found the three little dots which appear to open the topic for editing. Is this a standard icon for this purpose? Do we simply assume that people will know?

It also appears that switching back to visual editing gives a preview. I like that. I also see that the add topic button is now a save changes button, which is good and clear.

to change the icon for a feature. If I knew the name I could do it in the hub manager, but where are the names listed?

The names are the ones listed here: https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-extensions-CollaborationKit/tree/master/modules/images/icons but without the ".svg" part. (Clicking on them will show you a preview.) From there you can substitute out the keyword from editing the Collaboration Hub, for example by changing image=discussion to image=community. Or you could do image=Custom_file.svg to use an on-wiki image.

(As an aside: the icons with names should probably be documented in a more "on-wiki" way.)

Not very intuitive,

It is not obvious what one must do and there are no instructions on the forms for using them

The icon selection page gives a lot of icons, but does not explain what they are supposed to mean.

It also states in a little information button, that other images can be used, but not how to get them.

Does the add topic button save my edit? I must find out by experiment, as there is no save button on the page. Seems like it does. It also becomes a "save changes" button after editing, which is more intuitive to me.

  1. What are you currently trying to do that you are having trouble doing?
  2. For the icons, it's mostly a matter of what you think would be a good icon to go along with the content.
  3. Currently the interface for using other images as icons is not implemented; that help message will be updated accordingly.

  1. I tried to create a hub and got as far as the input form for adding a feature. Then I saved (Ithink) and went back to the hub and there was a message that the feature I thought I had just created does not exist, and a box to create feature which took me back to the feature creation page and no obvious way to escape/cancel. If I click submit again it tells me the feature already exists. I opened manage hub and the feature was there, then I saved manage hub and the feature was on the hub. Is this a thing that takes time or is something happening when I opened the hub manager (or saved it)?
  2. I think it would be a good long range target to have a set of consistent icons for all projects. Standardise now to avoid edit wars and interminable RFCs later.

Number 1 can be explained by how the MediaWiki software caches pages. I think it should be fixed as soon as possible to avoid further confusion. I am keeping track of the issue here: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T160879.

There is a plan for "standard features," basically templates for WikiProject sections, and that would include a standard definition for an icon. For example, a "requested articles" feature would use a specific icon for that.

The unsubscribe star

I assume that I am somehow automatically watching any topic I create or reply to, unless I click the unsubscribe star. I am guessing that being subscribed means I will get some form of notification if there is a reply. At this point I have no idea what form it will take, but assume it will be either on a watchlist or by the notices and alerts icons at the top of every page.

If I hide the topic, does it become permanently invisible ( I would not expect this) or can I restore visibility. I will now test this.

It seems that I can undo a hide. Makes sense.

Who can hide a topic? Obviously I can hide a topic I created, but can someone else hide my topic? I assume that admins can.
