Hashtags
Appearance
Hashtags are a common way of identifying edits related to some project or event on Wikimedia wikis. They are appended to the end of the edit summary (e.g. someone participating in Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos would use an edit summary like added image #wpwp2022
). There is no particular software support, but external tools can use the revision data to identify tagged edits. Most notably, the Hashtags tool can search edits by hashtag.
Tools linking the user to an edit form can add hashtags by prefilling the edit summary via the summary
URL query parameter.
Hashtags are unrelated to change tags, which are stored by MediaWiki as separate records and can be edited and searched, but cannot be easily added by an editor to their edit.
