About this board

Hello, this extension and the tools it offers are amazing. However the installation documentation is not enough detailed for private wikis administrators, quite often not advanced users, able to work on server configuration etc.. E.g. the guide provided here for the ocr tool should be improved with the specification of the apache and php directives to change, and possible issues that could come up during installation.

Hope someone could improve the documentation! I am available to translate it and collaborate but I don't have skills to write it down.

Samwilson (talkcontribs)

I'll try to help improve it. :-)

Have you had specific problems with installing it? It does have the Apache and PHP config that's required, although that is all specifically for the Wikimedia installation of the tool, you're right that a more general installation doc would be good.

Loman87 (talkcontribs)

yes, I completely misunderstood the documentation and used it to install the tool in my own wiki (causing also some issues with the wikimedia one). Adding comments where it’s very likely that a different configuration is needed for non Wikimedia users, could be a good starting point ;)

It seems that nobody follows this talk page, so I am trying to ping @Tpt from the discussion below if they know anything about the issue. Thanks very much.

@Tpt: Thanks for the reply. It would be great if it got improved. So is there any possibility how to interconnect the translations other than manual adding the interwiki at the moment?

Tpt (talkcontribs)

Hi! For now I see no other way than using the "wikitext" interwiki or creating a "work page" connected to d:Q104554889.

@Tpt: Hungarian Wikisource’s Module:Wikibase follows has edition or translation (P747) as well. It works if any one or both of the two pages (local and target) are connected to edition items. It also includes some checks to return only a single best result; if there are multiple equally valid possibilities, it returns nothing instead of choosing an arbitrary one. Maybe you could reuse the algorithm?

Tpt (talkcontribs)

Yes, it's definitely doable. I was planning to do it but I never took the time to implement this approach yet.

Hey @Tpt! What does this mysterious extension actually do? Is it installed anywhere? Kaldari (talk) 23:04, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi Kaldari! This extension is deployed on all Wikisources. It currently only uses the Wikidata property edition of to fill the "in other languages" and "other projects" sections of the sidebar. The goal of this extension is to have a place to put MediaWiki customization that is shared by all Wikisources and would be better in a MediaWiki extension than in a global gadget.
