Efficiency, Speed, and work f Site Stats turned off?
[edit]Cool extension. Two questions:
You talk about how efficient it is, and how it only has a few queries per page visit, but on a large site, let's take the extreme and say wikipedia itself, wouldn't a few MySQL queries per page across so many pages still slow thing down overall? I don't really know how these things work or affect speed, though. Smaug 01:21, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sure there would be a measurable decrease in performance after adding it to a very large site, but I guess what I mean is that should you want this functionality on your wiki, I thought that there probably wouldn't be a much more efficient way of adding it... but now that you mention it, there could be a way of just doing processing once an hour by recording the difference of the normal page counter between the start and end of each hour. I'll save that idea for a rainy day though :-) --Nad 03:27, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
If $wgDisableCounters is set to true, will this extension not work? Or is it independent of MW's built in statistics features? Smaug 01:21, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- It's independent of those hit counters currently. --Nad 03:27, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the responses. To be clear, if that rainy day comes and you use the normal page counter, then it would be dependent on the hit counters, yes? Smaug 14:59, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes in that case it would require them to be enabled. --Nad 21:48, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

How to get it working on the sidebar?
[edit]Out of the box, it doesn't seem to be able to be put into the sidebar (MediaWiki:Sidebar). I tried various formats, but none seem to work. -- FokeyJoe, 10 May 2011
