removing section numbers

[edit]

Section numbering is a user option declared in his preferences. It cannot be imposed and if it is set it leads to the following displayed TOC which present an aspect inconsitent :

Contents
 1 0. Community consensus
 2 1. Username and localisation
 3 2. Create AutoModerator's user page
4 3. Create false positive reporting page
 5 4. MediaWiki configuration
 6 5. Local configuration

Therefore it has been removed to fit standard TOC format :

Contents
 1 Community consensus
 2 Username and localisation
 3 Create AutoModerator's user page
4 Create false positive reporting page
 5 MediaWiki configuration
 6 Local configuration

Depending of the topic, ordered sections can be declared as subsection using standard indentation levels (=) or declared using wikitext list characters (: ...)

Hi @Wladek92
The standard TOC format is the one provided by Vector 2022. It doesn't number each toc section anymore (example).
If numbering is a problem, how would you convey that steps listed have to be achieved in this particular order? From previous experiences, I how that the more precise you are, the best results you get on both sides. :)

I was speaking of user preferences option to make numbering appears. As said to be achieved in a particular order use a sub indentation level (in the order to be achieved) or the ordered the standard list items declaration. -- Christian 🇫🇷 FR (talk) 14:58, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Personal user preferences aren't the default. :)
I'll go with "step 1", "step 2"...
