How it works

[edit]

The main entry point for the ImageSuggestions extension is a maintenance script that runs periodically. As of August 2022, WMF schedules SendNotificationsForUnillustratedWatchedTitles.php to run once a week.

The maintenance script then queus work in batches via the MediaWiki JobQueue. The job then fetches suggestions over HTTP from the image-suggestion service. This service is periodically fed by from the Image Suggestions pipeline.

Suggestions are then sent to editors that watch the articles via an Echo notifications.

See Structured Data Across Wikimedia/Image Suggestions for background information on how images and articles are chosen.
