Customisation
Appearance
MediaWiki can be customised in several ways. It is distributed as GPL. You may thus contribute your own skins, extensions and patches.
Configuration
- Configuration settings are defined in the
LocalSettings.php
file.
- Interface messages can be modified by editing their corresponding wiki page.
- Many community-provided extensions are available. They generally fall into one of these categories:
- Extensions defining a new wiki tag (see also: Write your own MediaWiki extension)
- Extensions defining a new special page (see also: Writing a new special page)
- MediaWiki is multilingual, and fully so with the Translate extension.
- The FAQ contains additional customisation info.
- See also Manual:System administration .
Skins
Look and feel can be modified by using different skins. There are various third-party skins, which allow radically changing the look and feel of the site.
