On the ArchCom’s Mind:
- REST API 1.0 to be announced as stable! https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/REST_API
- The services team updated their requirements document for the container pipeline: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UNl3P4Ky_K_qu3Md700xeDMEyThF07jXqr1eIH1nCWQ/edit
- The proposal to get rid of LocalizationUpdate seems to have been replace by a drive to rewrite it to integrate with git more closely, see the discussion on https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T158360
- Ladsgroup is working on using Redis as a distributed lock managing mechanism for Wikidata change dispatching, see https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T151993 and https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/diffusion/EWBA/browse/master/docs/change-propagation.wiki
- On a related note, Services team is discussing replacing Redis with a Kafka based solution for some use cases. Ask GWicke for details. There is a related discussion about replacing the JobQueue with changeprop and EventBus. (note: Wikidata change dispatching is not (yet) “changeprop”). See https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T149408 and https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T157088
- As the new MediaWiki Platform team is taking shape, it has taken ownership of some previously orphaned parts of the MediaWiki code base, see https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?diff=2428275&oldid=2382496&title=Developers/Maintainers and https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_Platform_team
Input wanted:
- Input wanted on “Provide standard-compatible way to load multi-file packages” https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T133462
- The idea of building a standalone password verification service is being revived, input wanted: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T120484
RFC discussions:
- We discussed “Canonical data URIs and URLs for machine readable page content” https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T161527 on Wednesday. There was rough consensus for URLs of the form https://commons.wikimedia.org/data/Data:Avignon_City_Wall.map redirecting to action=raw URLs. Full log: https://tools.wmflabs.org/meetbot/wikimedia-office/2017/wikimedia-office.2017-03-29-21.01.log.html Daniel will refine the writeup and then announce the RFC for a Last Call. If no new pertinent concerns are reaised during the last call period, the RFC will be approved an April 12.
- There is no public RFC discussion scheduled for next Wednesday, April 5.
