Create Camp

[edit]

The third day of the conference will consist of self-organized groups working together around topics of common interest. Some of those topics might be planned before the conference, while others may come out of the talks in the two previous days. If you have an idea for a topic for a group during the Create Camp, please add it below.

Etherpad: https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/EMWCon2019CreateCamp

  1. Create a SMW Set of classes that operate as a classical property chain.
i.e. "Site/Building/Room/Location" or "kingdom/phylum/class/order.." or "System/Subsystem/Element", "Company, Org, Branch, Division"
the goal of the create camp would be to show how one would create a system of categories, forms, templates, properties, and pages that would allow users to implement *any* generalized organizational scheme that fits the traditional structured-tree.
  2. Roadmap to MediaWiki as an enterprise platform What needs to be done to make MediaWIki more appealing to more enterprise users?
    1. Identify reasons MW isn't taken seriously by companies/orgs (we all know the selling points, but what is it missing?)
Advertising? MS Office integration? Actionable discussion?
    2. Outline a path to address each of these reasons
  3. (somewhat related to the above) Come up with a plan for proper read permission handling in MediaWiki: estimate difficulty and required resources, write fundraising / grant application plan, draft initial RfC
  4. Generate third-party feedback for the Talk page consultaion
  5. Dockerizing MediaWiki Setup
  6. There will be a MediaWiki Stakeholders' Group at 1pm. Everybody is welcome to attend if they are interested.
  7. Discover how to change the default date display behavior in Gantt charts produced by Ext:Mermaid
  8. How to create & install your first extension
  9. Show the tasks in the job queue from a Special page, with an extension
  10. Create tutorials for onboarding new users from an enterprise perspective
  11. Your Create Camp idea here.

Social activities

[edit]

There will be social activities (with food and drinks) on both main evenings of the conference:

  • Wednesday evening, April 3: bowling and billiards at Sea Bowl
  • Thursday evening, April 4: a reception at the Wikimedia Foundation office in downtown San Francisco

Tuesday evening meetup

[edit]

On the evening of Tuesday, April 2, the evening before the conference, there will be a Write the Docs meetup, to be held at Genesys HQ, in the same venue as the main conference. The topic will be the use of MediaWiki for documentation at Genesys. All EMWCon attendees are invited to attend this meetup, though if you do want to attend, please sign up on the meetup page.
