[edit]You would need to figure out what people are using Wikipedia templates and/or templates on other sites. A person wanting to use mediawiki to create an interoffice wiki would have different needs than a person who intended to create courses with mediawiki. Zzmonty (talk) 15:44, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
I don't understand this request... if I set up a separate wiki it could contain anything, so what would be the types of templates that would make sense to include in a "universal" version? I am not shooting this down, just trying to understand - maybe I am missing something about how I could be using templates. Tenbergen (talk) 15:15, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
I am just saying that MediaWiki should look at how administrators are using MediaWiki, and what extensions / templates / modules they are including. Tenbergen, you may be right in that there might no difference in the templates to include. On the other hand, there might be a difference. For example, a person plans on no language other than English is going to have different basic needs than somebody who plans to include other languages. Do you need RTL support or asian language support? Poem is a standard function. If an administrator never plans to write poetry, there is an unneeded extension / template. Does an administrator for a business need the cute icon templates, while a person doing a fun wiki might want those templates. The same is true if a person plans to have a community of editors vs. a single editor or a small group of editors. I am thinking of the user boxes, WikiProjects, etc. Zzmonty (talk) 18:30, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
