The related objectives in the Wikimedia Foundation’s annual plan are Knowledge Platform WE3 (fiscal year 23/24), WE5 and WE6 (fiscal year 24/25).

Goals for 2024-2025

Knowledge Platform I: Evolve the MediaWiki platform and its interfaces to better meet Wikipedia's core needs (Wiki Experiences 5)
- Improve sustainability of the MediaWiki platform (5.1)
- Simplify and streamline feature development (5.2)
- Support current and future needs of encyclopedic content (5.3)
- Improve process for release and synchronize with php upgrades (5.4)
Knowledge Platform II: Technical staff and volunteer developers have the tools they need to effectively support the Wikimedia projects (Wiki Experiences 6)
- Enable efficient decision making on developer workflows and services (6.1)
- Better serve developers’ testing needs (6.2)
- Improve sustainability of Toolforge ecosystem (6.3)
Goals for 2023-2024

Knowledge Platform: Increase collaboration and efficiency among software developers by improving the development process for MediaWiki (Wiki Experiences 3)
- A strategy for MediaWiki - by June 30th, 2024 (WE3)
- A 20% increase of authors to selected MediaWiki repositories deployed in Wikimedia production - by June 30th, 2024 (WE3.2)
- Investing in developer experiences and reduce fragmentation of developer workflows (WE 3.1)
- Explore and resolve a set of questions related to MediaWiki product strategy, stewardship, and collaboration (WE 3.3)
