I don't believe the software creates a tracking category automatically. @Tgr (WMF) if you have a moment can you confirm?

One example to track usage is what English Wikipedia has done. They use a template that adds uses of TemplateStyles to a category.

English Wikipedia uses a template that then adds uses to a category.

A search can also helps see where it is used..

Yeah, there's no tracking category.
