I mean a JS script located in userspace, such as Lupin's "popups": it is a JS script located at w:User:Lupin/popups.js, and is used by including it via e.g., w:User:Lupin/monobook.js, which is in turn included in all pages the user views because of <script> tags (at least when one uses the monobook skin, I don't know of the others). Is there an official name for these scripts? I seem to recall having read "userspace scripts", but I might be wrong. On wiki-en, another popular such script is Sam Hocevar's godmode-light.js. To me, these scripts are somehow extensions to Mediawiki, so it could make sense to document them here. Tizio 19:38, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

I expanded this page, please don't delete this page – I self had a problems with using this function, so I want to impart my knowledge to others.

I am still not clear what this page is for. If it is documentation for an extension to MediaWiki (javascript or otherwise) then it belongs in a sub-page of that extension's entry in the Extension: namespace. NO!!! This is an integral element of MediaWiki!

Hmm... It's strange. In Wikipedias and my Wikis (without any extensions) it works.

Does [2] works for you? It doesn't for me: it opens the edit form, and the b's are not replaced with x's. May I ask which account do you use in Wikipedia? Tizio 13:12, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

I analysed the Lupin's scripts, and I came to the conclusion that is not integral element of MediaWiki. I have corrected this article and I'd like to move one to Extension:Autoedit (but, what strange for me, non-sysop users cannot move pages). Frigglinn 16:22, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

By default, only autoconfirmed accounts (which are, by default, those older than 4 days) can move pages. This limitation had been introduced to limit movepage vandalism on the English Wikipedia, perhaps sometime around fall 2005.

I have a question for User:Frigglinn, if still watching this page: what happens if one use a character different than ~, e.g. "s,abcd,xxx,g" instead of "s~abcd~xxx~g". I'm asking because this syntax is close to that of w:sed, where one can use an arbitrary character (the program uses the character after the 's', whichever it is, as the separator). I do not see how otherwise one could replace strings containing themselves `~'. Tizio 23:11, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
