This page does not offer help on the MediaWiki meaning of the the word "namespace" - see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Namespace So ... what is THIS page for?
Articles without a ':' in their name are in the main namespace. This namespace is for articles; documents that aren't directly related to this may go in other namespaces. When articles are in another namespace, they are specified as ''namespace'':''article''; i.e. this page is ''{{NAMESPACE}}'':''{{PAGENAME}}''.

;Help: Documentation about working with the wiki software. This could be mirrored from outside sites, or locally written.
Note: I can't find the definition of "namespace" when typing into the MediaWiki [search] bar. Searching on Google, I can find this on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Namespace which comes from a place called "meta": http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Namespace ! Is there a reason MediaWiki.org can't see "meta" or can't find the meanings of any MediaWiki word typed into it's own [search] bar? See also [http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=define%3Anamespace&btnG=Google+Search Google search for [define:namsespace]] for general non-MediaWiki meanings of the word "namespace". May I suggest that we all look up the existing meaning of words before we create new meanings? -- Peter Blaise [[User:Peterblaise|peterblaise]] 11:59, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
;Image: For descriptions of uploaded files. You shouldn't create these directly; they are created when you click the [[special:upload|Upload file]] link in the toolbox.

;Media: Use this namespace to link to uploaded files directly, rather than through the description pages.
Note that MediaWiki "articles" without a colon (:) in their name are in the "main" "namespace", which is for "articles". "articles/documents" that aren't directly related to the main "namespace" are probably best placed in/under other namespaces (by doing what?). When articles/documents are in another namespace than the main namespace, you get to them and build them by typing ''namespace'':''article-name''; i.e. the page you are looking at ''{{NAMESPACE}}'':''{{PAGENAME}}''. To build "wtf" under "help" go/search for "help:wtf" and the MediaWiki will with bring you to such an existing page, or will respond with an offer to allow you to build such a page.
