Hello,

The scrutineers have finished reviewing the vote results. We are following up with the results of the first Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) election.

We are pleased to announce the following individuals as regional members of the U4C, who will fulfill a two-year term:

  • North America (USA and Canada)
  • Northern and Western Europe
  • Latin America and Caribbean
  • Central and East Europe (CEE)
  • Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Middle East and North Africa
  • East, South East Asia and Pacific (ESEAP)
  • South Asia

The following individuals are elected to be community-at-large members of the U4C, fulfilling a one-year term:

Thank you again to everyone who participated in this process and much appreciation to the candidates for your leadership and dedication to the Wikimedia movement and community.

Over the next few weeks, the U4C will begin meeting and planning the 2024-25 year in supporting the implementation and review of the UCoC and Enforcement Guidelines. Follow their work on Meta-wiki.

On behalf of the UCoC project team,

I signed up under a different country's page... Now I'm stuck there...

I need help figuring out what to do about my wiki account, which is apparently under an Indian registration, though I'm American (I tried to fix this, but just HOURS prior to, had action against my account because of the username policy, there, so I don't have the perms.) I don't know if deleting it, entirely, is a potential solution, or if it can be worked out for it to just be reopened and then moved, or if I'm just "S.O.L." (sore outta luck)...

Tacsipacsi (talkcontribs)

mediawiki.org doesn’t have per-country registrations. You should contact support on whatever wiki you registered on, not here (this page isn’t even a support page).

Dear community members,

The Community Affairs Committee (CAC) of the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees invites you to give feedback on a draft Procedure for Sibling Project Lifecycle. This draft Procedure outlines proposed steps and requirements for opening and closing Wikimedia Sibling Projects, and aims to ensure any newly approved projects are set up for success. This is separate from the procedures for opening or closing language versions of projects, which is handled by the Language Committee or closing projects policy.

You can find the details on this page, as well as the ways to give your feedback from today until the end of the day on June 23, 2024, anywhere on Earth.

You can also share information about this with the interested project communities you work with or support, and you can also help us translate the procedure into more languages, so people can join the discussions in their own language.

On behalf of the CAC,

RamzyM (WMF) 02:24, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Remove Wikibase landing page from translation

My understanding was that the indirect template inclusion was necessary to implement the custom stylesheet via "templatestyles". Is that in fact unnecessary to have a custom stylesheet?

Shirayuki (talkcontribs)

It seems that the base page does not need to be a template, as it can be written as src=":Wikibase/styles.css".

Tacsipacsi (talkcontribs)

The only problem is that Wikibase/styles.css is wikitext by default. However, there are solutions:

  • An admin can go to Special:ChangeContentModel/Wikibase/styles.css and create it as a TemplateStyles stylesheet. (Or you can just move the page already created in the template namespace to the mainspace.)
  • Actually, it’s technically not necessary for the stylesheet to be a subpage of the page using it. Subpages help a lot us people to find the connection, but it’s not technically enforced. So you could include Template:Wikibase main page/styles.css directly from Wikibase.
Bawolff (talkcontribs)

I think if you just move the page to a new name it retains the content model.

There are a lot of blogging sites out there you can use to write pages and add links. Even your browser has a feature called "bookmarks" where you can save links.

I tried to fix a broken link on this page Professional development and consulting at an external link that goes to Yaron Koren's Working with Mediawiki book but it returned an error, please how do i fix it ?

Salima Rabiu (talkcontribs)

you should report the incorrect link on the disussion page associated to the article as described in the first steps for beginners.

Wladek92 (talkcontribs)

I think after having created your account 4 days ago better is to start by learning the first steps of how to contribute.

Salima Rabiu (talkcontribs)

Thanks @Wladek92, i have already begun doing that, thankfully the documentations are quite detailed, but i would appreciate some help fixing this...if you have pointers i would be happy if you can share

For example, the link to "pre 1.1.0" on the Manual:$wgSitename/ja page is broken.

Make the following changes:

  • Replace "pre 1.1.0" with "before 1.1.0" in the argument "version_min" of {{SettingSummary}}.
  • Make "before 1.1.0" translatable (in the template).
